Joe Keery, Ferris Bueller, and Pizza

Image
Joe Keery who played Steve Harrington in the Netflix TV show, Stranger Things, appeared in a Domino's Pizza commercial which mimicked the 80s movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off.   The identical set, a very similar script and the comedic aspect of the ad almost distracted the real product being shown, pizza.  The classic film was meant to catch the attention of an older audience considering the time in which the movie was released.  Yet the cast choice appealed to millennials today and reflected the high viewers rates.  Despite the fact that the inspired idea for the ad came from a movie, the Domino's fast and efficient delivery service was behind the entire commercial.  Keery preached that, "Life moves pretty fast," and one must not be held back by infuriating slow distribution of ordered food.  Referring to his pizza, the actor patiently awaited his food while copying Ferris's funky dance moves, deep shower thought...

Bai Bai Bai

Image
Justin Timberlake and Christopher Walken both starred in the 2017 Superbowl Commercial for the company "Bai," a flavored drink. This thirty-seconded commercial cost the company nearly $5 million despite the unknown success rate of the aired advertisement. Each sat in a formal sitting room, dressed in aged clothing, and recited lines from a Timberlake song coincidentally coinciding with the drink name. The obvious testimonial technique used two celebrities to further publicize and endorse the product. The mysterious Lovemarks form created a bond with the viewers by captivating their interest and attention through the famous singer and actor. This so called "trust," in reality is the Bai company manipulating and controlling consumers minds. Their need for attention, calls for other people's attention in this case through the celebrity figures. Personally, I find this ad extremely amusing yet you could easily categorize me into mindless consumer grou...

Stranger Things Gets Stranger

Image
The best Netflix original series can easily be awarded to the show Stranger Things which first aired in July, 2016.  It received over one hundred award nominations and has been praised all over the world.  The cast staring Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Woldhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Sadie Sink and Noah Schnapp, has dominated the media and became famous overnight through their outstanding work for the TV show.  The show and cast's popularity has been greatly taken advantage of within the past year which most likely influenced the creation of Season 2, in October, 2017.  Within the show, views see the actors and actresses wearing "Chuck Taylor's" shoes, drinking "Coca Cola", and eating "KFC" chicken.  These are prime examples of Madison and Vine techniques which manipulate views minds by hidden advertisements delicate product placement.  This highly used concept has become one of the top four forms of persuasion in the advertisin...

Commercial Review

Image
Over the weekend, I was carelessly watching TV on Saturday when I encountered this humorous ad for Geico.  I'll admit it, I laughed out loud after witnessing the actors frustration while playing a game with a sloth.  Despite that this event is unrealistic, it still is very funny to the views while Geico secretly promote their company.  This ad had nothing to do with an insurance company until the end of the forty second long commercial where a narrator spoke really fast about saving money.  The intent for this ad was most likely set for young adults in need of financial protection and reached out to them with an entertaining distraction.  Double speak was highly effective in terms of portraying a game night with humans and sloths yet in reality promoting the Geico company.  These forms of ads are only effective when they capture the views attention and later connect it towards their business.  Projection and vagueness are additional...

My Relationship to Media in 2017

Image
I attended around 50-75 thanksgiving dinners on Thursday evening while visiting my grandparents house.  This is almost impossible you might think, how could I visit this many family gatherings from one spot?  Simply by clicking through my Snapchat, I viewed all the Thanksgiving meals of my followers family from the screen of my phone.  Rather than ignoring the harmless posts, it dawned on me how these people were looking at a glowing screen while their families sat as shadows in the background.  My interaction with media is a love-hate relationship mostly regarding my social media accounts.  I find myself glancing at posts during my free time and chat with friends from school like most students in high school.  Snapchat and Instagram are easy ways to stay in the loop with things happening outside of school, which I follow.  Yet, I see others taking advantage media by publicizing their entire life just to get the extra followers, ...
