Hawaiian Amber Alert
On Saturday around 8:00 a.m., an amber alert was sent to the residence living in Hawaii about a ballistic missile attack. For nearly 38 minutes, a sense of panic was spread throughout all the islands as people prepared for the end of the world. Considering the recent tension with North Korea, the announcement was not taken lightly and the Hawaiian community was relieved to discover it was false. Yet while everyone was happy that their lives were not in danger, the chaotic state in which the message caused has left Hawaii outraged and wanting answers. Apparently the wrong button was clicked on a government issued computer which blasted the alert to almost every electronic device on the eight islands. This left Hawaii at a very emotional state as they didn’t have to live December 13th, 2018 as their last day on earth. I find it alarming that it took the government such a long time to turn off the alert and assure people that they are safe. While Hawaii is not under a missile threat, most people feared for their lives yet one man in particular took advantage of the situation. A text message conversation between a father and his daughter showed that he was not concerned that he was in potential danger. He watched people run out of the restaurant to take shelter while he then “cleaned out the place,” because everybody left. I find this funny but also worrisome because the man paid little attention towards the amber alerts. While the people in Hawaii recover from this horrifying event, it is good to know that at least one person was able to stay calm during the whole situation. Plus the benefit of more food…

It seems very strange how easily they were able to mistakenly press the Missile Alert button because it was right next to Missile Alert Test button which they had no way of cancelling and they did not require a verification to press it. Apparently they changed it by now but they have caused massive confusion first.
